"O'zapft is!" Welcome to the Oktoberfest in Munich!!!

The world's largest folk festival, the Oktoberfest in Munich, just started Saturday, September 22, 2012. For the 179th time people from all over the world come to the Wiesn (short for Theresienwiesen) to celebrate. It began in 1810 when Bavaria's Crown Prince Ludwig married Theresia of Saxony. As a special event for their wedding,  a horse race has been held in a large field outside the city, the Theresienwiesn. It was so popular they repeated it year after year and at the end of the 19th century it has more become the huge festival we now know. It lasts 16 days and brings more than 6 Million people during this time! Local and often non locals will wear their traditional outfit, which is the Dirndl for the girls and the Lederhosen for the guys. And there is a hint with that Dirndl. Depending on where the bow is placed it tells you weather the girl is single, married, widow etc. So, anyone who wants to flirt should look out for the bow placed on the girl's left side!

We will be offering special tours for the 2013 Oktoberfest, with nonstop flights to Munich from most major US cities, this will be a great experience. Did you know that the flight attendants from Lufthansa wear Dirndl on select flights? Stay put, there is lots of info coming during the next months.
